CONDITIONS

This Equivalency Certificate authorizes 6371532 Manitoba Ltd. doing business as Thiessen Auto Parts to handle, offer for transport or transport by aircraft, dangerous goods that are UN2794, BATTERIES, WET, FILLED WITH ACID, electric storage, Class 8, Packing Group III, UN2795, BATTERIES, WET, FILLED WITH ALKALI, electric storage, Class 8, Packing Group III, or UN2800, BATTERIES, WET, NON-SPILLABLE, electric storage, Class 8, Packing Group III, in a manner that does not comply with columns 10 and 12 of Table 3‑1, Dangerous Goods List, Chapter 2, Part 3 and Part 4 of the Technical Instructions for the Safe Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Air, and paragraph 12.1(1)(e) of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, under the following conditions:

(a) the dangerous goods:

(i) are placed in an acid/alkali-proof liner of sufficient strength and adequately sealed to positively preclude leakage in the event of spillage,

(ii) are contained in one or more means of containment, designed, constructed, filled, closed, secured, and maintained so that under normal conditions of transport, including handling, there will be no accidental release of the dangerous goods that could endanger public safety;

CONDITIONS

(b) each means of containment has a gross mass less than or equal to 30 kg;

(c) the dangerous goods are packed so that they are protected from short circuit;

(d) the dangerous goods are packed so that the fill openings and vents, if any, are upward;

(e) the Equivalency Certificate holder ensures that the personnel handling and transporting the dangerous goods is trained in regards to the conditions of this Equivalency Certificate;

(f) the shipping document that accompanies the dangerous goods includes the following information legibly and indelibly printed:

"Equivalency Certificate No. SA 10928 (Ren. 2)"

Note: The issuance of this Equivalency Certificate in no way reduces the certificate holder's responsibility to comply with any other requirements of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, the Technical Instructions for the Safe Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Air, the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code, and the Canadian Aviation Regulationsnot specifically addressed in this certificate.

Explanatory Note

This Equivalency Certificate authorizes the transportation of batteries in means of containment that do not comply with Part 5 of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations and with the Packing Instructions prescribed in the Technical Instructions for the Safe Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Air.
