Why register with CANUTEC?

Section 3.5 of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations requires consignors (a person who ships or imports dangerous goods) to place a 24-hour emergency telephone number on shipping documents for dangerous goods. Registration with CANUTEC gives the right to use our 24-hour emergency number on shipping documents. It also makes our technical assistance immediately available in the event of an incident. CANUTEC services are free of charge to Canadian companies. Maintaining a registration requires an annual account review and update.

How to register with CANUTEC?

Please use CANUTEC Registration System (CRS) Online. Existing users may login below. New users may create a user account. If you are unable to use CANUTEC Registration System (CRS) Online, please call Kristen Steel at 613-947-5048, CANUTEC at 613-992-4624 or e-mail canutec.services@tc.gc.ca.

Who may register with CANUTEC?

Any Canadian consignor of dangerous goods may register with CANUTEC. Registration does not apply to carriers (i.e. freight forwarders, transport companies, etc.) unless they are also a consignor on the shipping document. Manufacturers may also register with CANUTEC as a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) Provider. An MSDS Provider submits their company’s MSDS on behalf of other consignors. MSDS Providers are not authorized to use CANUTEC’s 24-hour emergency telephone number on shipping documents.

What information do you need to provide?

  • Your company’s name and address and the names and addresses of all the sites (i.e. branch, head office, etc.) associated with your company that ships dangerous goods.
  • One (1) administrative contact responsible for updating all the information related to your company (i.e. contacts, and technical documents).
  • At least three (3) emergency contacts or one (1) dedicated 24-hour emergency number with a live-person answering or a dedicated duty roster cell phone number.
  • Technical information on the dangerous goods to be shipped (such as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS))

If you need more information or have questions, please call Kristen Steel at 613-947-5048 or e-mail canutec.services@tc.gc.ca. For help after hours, please call CANUTEC at 613-992-4624.
